About Us

May 16, 2007

Hello Gary,
How does someone even begin to say “thank you” for a night of great entertainment!
You guys and gal made us look like superstars – the band right from the beginning on the first song had people up there dancing!
It is a week later and people are still commenting on a great time they had and how great the band was.
I will have the pictures from that evening sent to you once I have them all downloaded
Thank you again for a great night of entertainment

I would like to take this opportunity to thank The stevens & Kennedy Band for providing the dance music at The Army Ball.
There is no doubt the high level of musicianship, energy and overall appeal make The Stevens & Kennedy Band a much sought
after group in the National Capital Region. Our guests look forward each year to dancing the night away to the band, and the success of your
repertoire and audience appeal is clearly demonstrated by the number of people who take to the dance floor for such long periods of time.
We look forward to using the services of The Stevens & Kennedy Band at the next Army Ball.

NAC Celebrates Canada Day
Across the canal at the NAC, about 400 donors and sponsors of the centre and friends of Rogers were celebrating at a buffet dinner on the beautiful roof terrace. With the Stevens & Kennedy band making the music, guests nibbled on wraps and sausages, and danced, and oohed and aahed over the fireworks. Chef Kurt Waldele was in charge of the food, but admitted that his annual late summer garden party for the Ottawa Humane Society, one of the most sumptuous fundraisers of the year, has been put on hold this season.

A recent letter

I'd like to let you know that the music choice I made was one of the best choices of the wedding day. Roger and I were delighted by the Stevens and Kennedy Band, as were all of our guests.

With respect to the music, the 10-person band put on quite a show. I was recommended to not give a lot of guidance, but rather to rely on the experience of the band and let the band be guided by the mood of the guests. This was truly good advice!

The band was a very large repertoire and can take requests on the spot. The Stevens and Kennedy Band has a couple of Hora options, specifically, a wedding hora medley, that was a lot of fun and got everyone dancing right from the very start. The wide repertoire to which I refer includes Sinatra classics, jitterbugs for the parents (my dad is a jitterbug nut!), band-original renditions of "New York, New York," and contemporary songs from S&G ("Late in the evening") ... along with other radio favourites. To be completely honest, I was having such a ball I can hardly remember what exactly was played. I only remember that everyone was dancing, including the folks I never expected to get up at all! The energy lasted throughout the night and the party was only over once the music stopped.

Marlene & Gary Morton
The Stevens & Kennedy Band
Re: Soubliere / Archer Wedding
October 18th 2003

Dear Marlene & Gary,

Thank you for providing all music for our wedding on Saturday October 18th 2003 at the National Gallery of Canada. The purpose of this letter is that we wanted to provide something in writing to you and your incredible band for contributing to such a wonderful evening.

As you know, the effort required to organize and plan a wedding is extensive and we wanted to let you know that it was a pleasure dealing with you leading up to (and during) our wedding. We were (and remain) very satisfied with the professionalism, pleasantness, as well as all the extra’s that S&K provided. In particular, besides the incredible music and great song selection during our wedding, S&K went above and beyond our expectations with the following:

•• Very funny ?bride & groom kissing? music
•• Excellent rendition of our first songs (At Last & Wonderful World) •• Great music during the breaks
•• Great stage set-up
•• Working directly with the National Gallery in managing all the details for your set-up
•• Providing music on queue during our slide-show
•• Accommodating song requests from our guests

And last but definitely not least, your lead singer (James) was incredible in his impersonations and his energy contributed significantly to the fun and success of the evening. In fact, some of our guests are still talking about him (apparently he did a great Rolling Stones & Tina Turner impersonation).

The only negative aspect is that S&K was so good and so much fun, our guests did not want to leave once the evening ended (even when the bar closed). However, that was definitely a pleasant problem to have.

In addition, we are certain that unforeseen details occurred during our wedding – and the fact that your team managed these without having to check with us (and the fact we never heard about them) demonstrates your experience and professionalism for these types of events.

Thank you for providing all the music for our wedding. S&K (including James) exceeded our expectations and your contribution will forever be remembered by us. Please feel free to use this letter or have any future customers contact us for an exceptional recommendation.

Sincerely,
Alexandre & Lorraine

Ottawa Citizen, Feb 9, 2003 - Viennese Winter Ball

To the excitement of all the revellers and, for the first time in the ball's history, Prime Minister Jean Chrétien and his wife Aline were able to attend.

"It's so exciting. They're finally in town for the event," said co-chair Brian Barrett, who's been to each of the balls. "Events like this are few and far between. The whole thing is very magical. You get transformed to another place."

Anyone who's ever been to the Viennese Winter Ball will tell you there is no other night like it in Ottawa. And last night's seventh annual soirée proved no exception.

Ottawa Mayor Bob Chiarelli and companion Wendi Hanson were in good spirits as they chatted with friends and made their way to the Grand Hall. Even though this is Mr. Chiarelli's fourth ball, he still hasn't taken to waltzing. "Waltzing is not my favourite dance," he said, laughing. "I prefer rock and roll and jive."

The Band performs at a great many weddings during the year. Our aim is to ensure your reception will set you apart from others. We work closely with you from the first contact through to the closing dance.

During the reception we will handle the MC duties and announcements or assist your choice of MC with their duties.

Most couples have a favourite song in mind for their first dance - we would be delighted to arrange and perform this song. Please let us know so that we have time to put it together. This is our gift to you.

Occasionally we have a request to have a friend of the family perform with the Band. If this person is a musician we would be happy to accommodate this request but to ensure the confidence of your guest and the Band, call and talk to us.

We have a lot of experience with weddings so if you have any questions, please feel free to talk to us.

A letter from a recent wedding client - June 2003

Hi
"Just wanted to write a quick email thanking you for a terrific evening. The band was awesome and totally met all our expectations. You truly added to an already fantastic day!! We had a lot of compliments and people really enjoyed the music. You played a good mix for all the generations and particularly my Father was very impressed!!! Thanks also for an awesome version of our wedding song, I was worried it may not sound the same but it sounded really great and even gave me goosebumps.

I will highly recommend you to anyone!!!

Thanks again,
Daniela and Darren
